Forest Bathing

Join Theresa Baetzel, Herbalist and Forest School Teacher and Director, for a Forest Bathing session. What is forest bathing? Also known as Shinrin-yoku which literally translates to "take the atmosphere of the forest" it is the practice of immersing yourself in nature to enhance your health and well being. Don’t worry; we will not actually be swimming but ‘bathing’ in the nourishing goodness that trees and plants have to offer. Forest bathing provides many benefits to the body! Theresa will guide participants across the creek and through the forest for a relaxing session of intentional nature immersion. This workshop is not included in ticket cost, but can be added on for an additional $20. Limited space.

Forest bathing provides many benefits to the body!

Negative Ions- positive ions build up in our bodies as a result of being indoors, using electronics, stress, and not physically connecting to the earth. We experience this both physically and emotionally through anxiety, depression, chronic fatigue, frequent illness, irritation. But when we are in a forest, there is a plethora of negative ions we can absorb back into our bodies, remediating these conditions.

  • Mycobacterium Vaccae- from rich forest soils- release serotonin, the “Happiness Hormone”!

  • Phytoncides- volatile organic compounds that include terpenes (aromatherapy) that invigorates and provides more oxygen to our body. Phytoncides have been proven to lower cortisol, regulate mood, improve sleep, and strengthen and modulate immune function.

  • Chromotherapy- color therapy has been proven to support wellness and well- being. But did you know that when colors are witnessed in nature, the effects are amplified?? Green and brown can reduce stress, anxiety, and induce calm in a forest setting. Blue and purples in nature also induce calm and relaxation.

A typical Forest Bathing session is between 1.5 hours and 4 hours- this exclusive session will introduce you to the healing art of nature therapy in a 60 minute immersive experience. Theresa will guide you through a series of 'invitations' aimed at opening your senses and reconnecting you with yourself and the environment around you. Come prepared to get up close and personal with the beautiful old growth forest at Free Haven, meet new friends, and enjoy some forest tea.
